EML 3036: Simulation Software for Mechanical Engineers

Homework Assignment 1

Use SolidWorks Motion (version available in EIC) to complete this assignment.

1. Create a ball (you may use a diameter of 73.5 mm), a ground, and an assembly of them.

2. Define an initial velocity of the ball as 25 m/s with a 45-degree angle starting from the ground.

3. Define a contact between the ball and ground with a restitution coefficient of 0.75.

4. Create a simulation of the projectile motion of the ball with 100 frames per second. (If the ball does not bounce, you may increase the fps rate.)

5. Answer the following questions by analyzing the simulation results:

1) Determine the traveling time and distance in horizontal (x-axis) direction when the ball hits the ground at the first time.

2) Determine the traveling time and distance in vertical (y-axis) direction when the ball is at its peak point.

3) Determine the velocities (including magnitudes and direction angles) of the ball at the 1, 2, 3 seconds.

4) Determine the velocity (including magnitudes and direction angles) when the ball hits the ground at the first time.

5) Determine the contact force when the ball hits the ground at the first time.

6. Use simulation results to get a trace path of the projectile motion.

7. Write down the results in a Word file, include a screenshot of the assembly with a trace path of the projectile motion, and save the file with a name of EML3036_HW#_YourName.

Submit your answer in a Word file with the parts and assembly to: eceml3036@gmail.com on the due day.
